i believe some members of [DeeR] had mentioned that their game would be completely destroyed by 8 mesmers. although this build does not feature 8 mesmers, i believe 4 is enough to do the trick.

the build is fairly simple: overload hex shutdown on the spikers if you face a spike build, and overload hex shutdown on key casters if you are not. the warrior and smiter just go in and apply pressure. although the spiking power of this build is not particularly high, i figured that two shatters, two burns, and one surge combined with the smiter and warrior should be deadly enough.

the mesmer runner can literally dual run by himself. Illusion of Haste and Shadow of Haste will stack to give this guy 148% run speed, and he can teleport back to his base immediately upon capping by cancelling Shadow of Haste.

PS: in case you haven't noticed, this build is a tongue-in-cheek counter to the current spike metagame. strangely enough, i think this might actually work.

PSS: i've made some changes after consulting the good people of #gwp. it should be stronger overall now.

Don't you think that if 148% faster speed was possible, it would be a bit more widely spread? Dash isn't a stack of skills, is it? It's one skill, without a scale. Ridiculous speed, balanced by the fact that it's only for three seconds. Speed skills don't stack past 33%. Period.

If you REALLY want to have fun, try 7 Me/R with Signet of Midnight, Serpent's Quickness, and Blackout. And Pets. Blind them, use Blackout, and kill them with a combo of wanding + pets. Make sure to bring a copy of Otyugh's Cry to get all the pets on the same target.

In all seriousness, though, we have a build with 2 copies of Blackout, and that's pretty much sufficient to counter Obs. Flame spike. Having a war with Wild Blow and Distracting Blow helps too, as Wild Blow will drop Resolve and Distracting will interrupt. Note that Wild Blow is also useful against trappers and those damn Me/A flag runners with Shadow of Haste.

Ranger spike gets owned by Shields Up!, and blood spike gets owned by interrupts. If you have a ranger with Savage and Distracting, and a couple other interrupts or Blackouts scatterred across your characters, you should be fine.

That said, I really hate obs. flame spike, especially on the fire map. You can outplay them the whole game, and still lose at VoD, because you can't really split on that map, and spikes are deadly at VoD.

Personally I really think the Burning Isle needs to be redesigned, as it's basically the only map that sub-par guilds running stupid gimmicks can consistently beat better guilds on.

oh well, a combined 133% speed boost is still faster than your standard 125%. the ability to teleport back to base is what makes this thing work so well.

The ele skill - burning speed can add +42% max speed, so 33 is not the limit (but could be in stack of skills)

i checked on guildwiki:

apparently, single skills can boost speed past 33%, but you cannot stack anything past 33%.

but the character's main strength still holds: he can essentially dual run by himself.

Yeah, but you are building to beat only spike. You have very low defense against any standard balanced build. Even then you aren't guaranteed to beat spike, I know in Es's build the PP/shatter mes and the rangers carry hex breaker which will still give them the opportunity to get some spikes off decently, and since you won't break their defenses easily with just one warrior and a smiter for consistent damage, its far from guaranteed.

I'd suggest at least Guardian on your Boonprot. Enemy Warriors will have a field day with all the squishy targets with no Distortion around them.

anyways, there's a Guardian on the smiter. one copy of Guardian is often enough since it is very spammable. anyways, i suppose the warriors can have a field day with three copies of Blackout as well.

If your Mesmers are constantly BOing, then they're not doing much else. Especially the Mantra of Recovery dude; Blackout works against him as it stops him from casting spells.

As for your smiter, realistically, he won't be using Guardian much, on your teammates.

actually, Guardian is part of the Zealot Fire smite chain: Air-->RoF-->Guardian. so technically, he'll be spamming it almost exclusively on his teammates.

the mesmers don't need to Blackout very much. The surger can probably take care of it himself. a single Blackout is enough to stop most adrenal spikes.

PS: the stats on the smiter are wrong. having 10 in healing without healing spells ftl.

PPS: gwshack is not working for some odd reason. nothing shows up.
